ARTIST STATEMENT
When working with the Cristos Chair in black cowhide leather, we were interested in how material alone can shift meaning. Leather carries time. It holds touch, weight, and use in a way few materials do. In this version, it grounds the chair and gives the idea of a throne a quieter, more human presence.
The form remains upright and composed, but the leather softens the authority it suggests. What emerges is a dialogue between strength and humility. Sitting in the chair is not about dominance, but about grounding. It asks the body to slow down and arrive.
We see this piece as transforming the act of sitting into a moment of reflection. The high backrest offers support, but also stillness. The luxury here is not display, but calm. Black cowhide brings depth, dignity, and a sense of continuity, allowing the chair to feel both enduring and deeply present.
