ARTIST STATEMENT
The Santos Chair explores the tension between vulnerability and strength through reduction. Its form is intentionally unembellished, allowing material and proportion to speak without distraction. In this restraint, the chair approaches something almost devotional, where simplicity becomes a form of clarity rather than absence.
The chair is not concerned with comfort as indulgence, but with presence. Like a modern relic, it invites the body to engage honestly, without layers or pretense. Sitting becomes an act of exposure as much as use.
In embracing nakedness as an idea rather than a gesture, the Santos Chair reflects a belief that authenticity is found not in what is added, but in what is allowed to remain.
